I was keen to get into accounting from a relatively young age, and I began my journey with voluntary bookkeeping and providing financial services at the NFP organisation, back at university, while studying for my masters. I went on to join a public practice firm in order to gain further experience in an environment that suited my career ambitions. I learned much about taxation and auditing, and earned a sound knowledge of management accounting, due to the availability of a wide range of cases. I’ve always enjoyed setting myself challenges, and I believe career development is all about attitude and pushing yourself to be better at helping clients.
I don’t really have a preferred type of customer. I believe that a person’s Individual Tax Return is always a great place to start when I’m trying to develop an understanding of a client and their situation. It’s the ideal place to start a conversation with someone about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations – and that helps me to get to a point quickly where I can begin to develop some positive outcomes for them. Maintaining a productive relationship with clients is a big part of what we do here at FTA, and that’s the basis I use to provide a continuing range of services to everyone I help.
Outside work, I like to stay active, and the Sunshine Coast is undoubtedly the perfect place to do that! Being able to get to the beach after work for a touch of fishing is just the best. I love the sense of community here, and that’s one of the things I love about working at FTA. Community is definitely a common theme between work and home life.
